Serotonin receptor 1A (5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1A) (5-HT1A)

Target
5-HT1A
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The serotonin 1A receptor (5-HT1A) is a subtype of serotonin receptors, part of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family. It binds the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, or 5-HT). It primarily couples to Gi/Go proteins, inhibiting adenylyl cyclase activity and activating inwardly rectifying potassium channels. 5-HT1A receptors are found as autoreceptors on serotonergic neurons in the raphe nuclei and as heteroreceptors on postsynaptic neurons elsewhere in the brain. It is involved in mood, anxiety, cognition, and hormone secretion and is a target for antidepressants and anxiolytics.
