The serotonin 5-HT1D receptor (HTR1D) is a subtype of the serotonin receptor family and a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR). It is primarily expressed in the central nervous system, influencing locomotion, anxiety behaviors, and cerebral blood vessel vasoconstriction. Activation leads to inhibition of adenylate cyclase and decreased cAMP levels. It is a therapeutic target for migraine.
Agonists bind to the 5-HT1D receptor, coupled to Gi/Go proteins, leading to inhibition of adenylate cyclase, decreased cAMP levels, and an overall inhibitory cellular response. Functions as a terminal autoreceptor regulating serotonin release from nerve endings; thus modulating serotonergic neurotransmission. Antagonists block the receptor.
