Serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake refers to the biological process by which the neurotransmitters serotonin (5-HT) and noradrenaline (NE) are transported from the synaptic cleft back into presynaptic neurons via SERT and NET transporters. Inhibition of these transporters is the mechanism of action of SNRIs, leading to increased synaptic concentrations of these neurotransmitters and enhanced signaling. This target is central to modern antidepressant and anxiolytic therapy.
