Target intelligence / Profile preview
A serotonin modulator is a type of drug that acts on the serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) neurotransmitter system in the brain. These agents have a multimodal mechanism of action: they both modulate one or more subtypes of serotonin receptors and inhibit the reuptake of serotonin, thereby increasing its synaptic concentration. This dual action distinguishes them from selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which primarily block reuptake without significant direct receptor modulation.
Modulates multiple post-synaptic/pre-synaptic serotonin receptors; inhibits SERT
