Serotonin Receptor 1A Subunit (5-HT1A)

Target
5-HT1A
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, GPCR, Class A Rhodopsin-like
01

Overview

The serotonin receptor 1A subunit (5-HT1A receptor) is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds serotonin. It is widely distributed in the brain and peripheral tissues and plays a crucial role in mood, anxiety, cognition, sleep, and pain regulation. As both an autoreceptor and heteroreceptor, it modulates serotonin release and neuronal excitability. It is a key target for antidepressant and anxiolytic drugs.

Other names
Serotonin receptor 1A5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1A

Mechanism of action

Agonism, partial agonism, or antagonism of the 5-HT1A receptor, leading to modulation of neuronal excitability and neurotransmitter release.
