The serotonin receptor 1B subunit (5-HT1B) is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds serotonin and is primarily located on presynaptic axon terminals. It functions as an autoreceptor to inhibit serotonin release and as a heteroreceptor to modulate the release of other neurotransmitters. Its activation influences mood, cognition, appetite, aggression, anxiety, pain, and vascular tone. It is implicated in psychiatric disorders like depression and is a target for antimigraine drugs.
