Target intelligence / Profile preview

Serotonin receptor 1E (5-HT1E)

Target
5-HT1E
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The serotonin receptor 1E (5-HT1E) is a Gi/o-coupled G protein-coupled receptor primarily expressed in the frontal cortex, hippocampus, olfactory bulb, caudate putamen, and amygdala in humans. Activation inhibits adenylate cyclase, decreasing cAMP levels. Its precise physiological function is still unclear due to the lack of selective pharmacological tools and animal models (absent in rodents). Hypothesized roles include memory regulation, neuroprotection, immune modulation, and involvement in cell survival pathways, including potential links to cancer progression. There are currently no approved drugs targeting specifically the human serotonin receptor 1E.
