Serotonin Receptor 2C (5-HT2C)

Target
5-HT2C
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), Class A GPCR, Serotonin receptor
01

Overview

The serotonin 5-HT2C receptor is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds serotonin and modulates various physiological processes, including neurotransmitter release, mood, anxiety, feeding behavior, and reproductive behavior. It is a therapeutic target for CNS disorders, including obesity, depression/anxiety spectrum disorders, sexual dysfunctions, and urinary issues. Development of selective agonists has been challenging, and off-target effects remain a concern.

Other names
5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2CHTR2C

Mechanism of action

Modulates neuronal activity via G protein signaling pathways; inhibits dopamine and norepinephrine release in certain brain areas.
