Target intelligence / Profile preview

Serotonin Receptor 5-HT1A (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The serotonin 1A receptor (5-HT1A) is a subtype of serotonin receptors and a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) coupled to Gi/o proteins. It is widely expressed in the brain, particularly in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, septum, amygdala, and raphe nucleus. Functioning as both an autoreceptor on serotonergic neurons in the raphe nuclei and as a postsynaptic heteroreceptor in target brain regions, it plays a key role in modulating mood, anxiety, cognition, and hormone secretion. Activation of the receptor leads to hyperpolarization and inhibition of neuronal firing, making it a therapeutic target for anxiety disorders and depression.
