The serotonin 1A receptor (5-HT1A) is a subtype of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) receptors. It is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), specifically coupled to Gi/Go proteins, and plays a key role in mediating the effects of serotonin in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues. In humans, it is encoded by the HTR1A gene. It regulates mood and behavior, neurotransmitter release and hormone secretion and is implicated in mood disorders such as major depressive disorder.
