The serotonin receptor 5A (5-HT5A) is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds serotonin and is primarily expressed in the central nervous system. It couples mainly to Gi/Go proteins, leading to inhibition of adenylyl cyclase activity and decreased intracellular cAMP levels and also regulates intracellular calcium mobilization. It's involved in modulating neurotransmission, neural plasticity, and may serve as a presynaptic serotonin autoreceptor. No well-established drugs specifically target this receptor, but there are known active ligands.
