Serotonin Receptor 5HT1D (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The serotonin receptor 5HT1D (5-HT1D, HTR1D) is a subtype of the serotonin receptor family. It is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that mediates inhibitory neurotransmission by decreasing cellular levels of cyclic AMP (cAMP). It functions primarily in the modulation of neurotransmitter release, particularly serotonin, and is involved in vasoconstriction. Drugs targeting this receptor, such as triptans, are used for acute migraine therapy. Dysfunctions involving this receptor have been implicated in mood disorders including depression and anxiety.

Mechanism of action

Agonists induce cranial vasoconstriction and inhibit neuropeptide release from trigeminal nerve endings; antagonists block serotonin binding and downstream signaling.
