Serotonin Receptor 6 (5-HT6R)

Target
5-HT6R
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The serotonin receptor 6 (5-HT6R) is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds serotonin. It is primarily expressed in the brain, particularly in the striatum, amygdala, nucleus accumbens, hippocampus, and cortex. Activation of 5-HT6R stimulates adenylate cyclase, increasing cAMP levels. It plays roles in cognition, memory, motor control, emotional regulation, and appetite. Selective ligands are being explored as potential therapeutics for cognitive disorders and obesity due to its CNS-restricted expression profile.
