The serotonin receptor 7 (5-HT7 receptor) is a G protein-coupled receptor activated by serotonin. It is involved in mood regulation, circadian rhythms, sleep, learning, memory, and smooth muscle relaxation. It primarily couples to Gs proteins, leading to increased cAMP and PKA activation, but can also couple to Gα12 proteins. Dysregulation of 5-HT7 signaling has been linked to neuropsychiatric disorders and other diseases, making it a potential therapeutic target.
