Serotonin Receptor Subtype 2 (5-HT₂ receptor family)

Target
5-HT₂ receptor family
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The serotonin receptor subtype 2, commonly referred to as the 5-HT₂ receptor family, consists of three main subtypes: 5-HT₂A, 5-HT₂B, and 5-HT₂C. These receptors are part of the larger serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT) receptor family and are classified as G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), specifically coupling to Gq/G11 proteins. They mediate excitatory neurotransmission by increasing intracellular levels of inositol triphosphate (IP₃) and diacylglycerol (DAG).
