The serotonin 1A receptor (5-HT1A) is a subtype of serotonin receptors and a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR). It binds serotonin and regulates mood, anxiety, cognition, and neuroendocrine function. Activation of the 5-HT1A receptor leads to neuronal inhibition and modulates hormone secretion, influencing various physiological and psychological processes. Alterations in 5-HT1A receptor function are implicated in mood disorders, making it a target for antidepressants and anxiolytics.
