Serotonin Receptors 5-HT1A, 5-HT1B, 5-HT2A, and 5-HT2C (5-HT1A/1B/2A/2C)

Target
5-HT1A/1B/2A/2C
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor
01

Overview

Serotonin receptors (5-HT1A, 5-HT1B, 5-HT2A, and 5-HT2C) are G protein-coupled receptors that mediate the effects of serotonin in the central and peripheral nervous systems. They regulate a wide range of physiological processes including mood, cognition, pain, appetite, sleep, and more. 5-HT1A/1B are Gi/o coupled, leading to neuronal inhibition, while 5-HT2A/2C are Gq/11 coupled, leading to excitatory responses. Many psychiatric drugs target these receptors to treat depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and other disorders.
