SERPINE1 mRNA binding protein 1 pseudogene 1 (SERBP1P1, ENSG00000271101) is a pseudogene located in the human genome. It is a non-functional copy of the SERPINE1 mRNA binding protein 1 gene and does not encode a biologically active protein. Pseudogenes like SERBP1P1 are remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and generally lack protein-coding capability due to disabling mutations or regulatory deficiencies. There are no known drugs, disease associations, or recognized biological functions for this pseudogene. The functional protein-coding gene, SERPINE1 mRNA binding protein 1 (SERBP1, ENSG00000142864), should not be confused with the pseudogene. SERBP1 encodes a protein involved in mRNA binding, ribosome function, and may have roles in cancer biology. In contrast, the pseudogene does not encode a functional protein and is not a target for therapeutic intervention.
