SERPINE1 mRNA binding protein 1 pseudogene 3 (SERBP1P3) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome[1][3][4][7][9]. Pseudogenes are genomic sequences similar to functional genes, but are typically non-functional due to mutations or loss of regulatory elements that prevent them from being expressed as active proteins[5]. SERBP1P3 shows sequence similarity to the functional SERBP1 gene, which encodes an RNA-binding protein involved in ribosome binding, mRNA stabilization, and other cellular processes[2]; however, SERBP1P3 itself does not produce a functional protein product or act as a drug target. Some pseudogenes may play regulatory roles at the RNA level (such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or generating non-coding RNAs), but there is no evidence that SERBP1P3 has any such function or disease association in current scientific literature[3][5].
