SERTA domain-containing protein 3 (SERTAD3) is a nuclear protein, encoded by the SERTAD3 gene, and member of the SERTA family of transcriptional coactivators[2][3]. It functions as an antiviral interferon-stimulated gene product, restricting replication of certain RNA viruses such as Zika virus (by promoting proteasomal degradation of viral capsid proteins in the nucleus) and influenza virus (by disrupting viral polymerase complex formation)[1][2][5]. SERTAD3 also plays a role in the late-phase response of Toll–like receptor (TLR) induced immune effector expression and may be upregulated in cancer cells, where it can influence cell proliferation by acting as a strong transcriptional coactivator[2][4][5]. No approved drugs are currently known to directly target SERTAD3, but small peptides derived from SERTAD3 with antiviral activity have been investigated in experimental models[1].
