Target intelligence / Profile preview
Serum amyloid A (SAA) proteins are a family of apolipoproteins primarily associated with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma. They are major acute-phase proteins whose serum concentrations increase dramatically during inflammation, infection, or trauma. SAA is mainly produced by hepatocytes and plays a role in modulating innate immunity, cholesterol homeostasis, and recruiting immune cells. Chronic elevation is linked to several diseases, including AA amyloidosis.
