Overview

Serum response factor-binding protein 1 (SRFBP1) is an RNA binding protein predicted to be involved in the maturation of small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU-rRNA) and ribosome biogenesis, with a perinuclear and nuclear localization pattern. SRFBP1 may play a role in the biosynthesis and/or processing of the SLC2A4 glucose transporter gene in adipose tissue, and may be involved in regulating transcriptional activation of certain cardiac genes, especially during aging. However, there is no strong evidence that SRFBP1 is a validated therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs that directly interact with this protein. The protein is also known by several aliases, including p49, STRAP, and BUD22, and is sometimes misattributed as a direct regulator of serum response factor (SRF), a distinct DNA-binding transcription factor.
