Serum-stimulated 2 receptor (ST2)

Target
ST2
Molecular classification
Receptor, Interleukin-1 receptor family, Toll-like/IL-1-receptor superfamily
01

Overview

Serum-stimulated 2 receptor (ST2), also known as IL1RL1, is a member of the interleukin-1 receptor family. It exists in two main forms: a transmembrane receptor (ST2L) and a soluble form (sST2). ST2L binds to interleukin-33 (IL-33), triggering downstream signaling pathways involved in immune responses and cardioprotection. sST2 acts as a decoy receptor, modulating IL-33 availability. sST2 is a biomarker for heart failure.

Mechanism of action

sST2 acts as a decoy receptor, binding IL-33 and preventing its interaction with the membrane-bound ST2L receptor.
