Seryl-tRNA Synthetase

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase, Class II aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase
01

Overview

Seryl-tRNA synthetase (SerRS) is an essential enzyme that catalyzes the attachment of the amino acid serine to its cognate tRNA (tRNA^Ser), a critical step in protein synthesis. It operates as a homodimer and, unusually for tRNA synthetases, recognizes its tRNA substrate primarily through the variable arm. Beyond translation, SerRS has noncanonical roles, including transcriptional regulation (e.g., VEGFA repression) and involvement in vascular development.
