Overview

SET binding factor 1 pseudogene 1 (SBF1P1) is a processed pseudogene of SET binding factor 1 (SBF1)[1]. Unlike the protein-coding SBF1 gene, which is involved in phosphoinositide metabolism, autophagy regulation, and peripheral myelination, SBF1P1 does not encode an active protein and is not considered an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or other classical drug target[1][4]. Like other pseudogenes, SBF1P1 may have potential regulatory functions at the RNA level by acting as a microRNA decoy or by influencing the expression of its parental gene, but no direct evidence for this activity exists for SBF1P1[5]. Pseudogenes are increasingly recognized for their possible role in post-transcriptional regulation and disease mechanisms, but SBF1P1 is not currently known to serve as a biomarker, therapeutic target, nor does it interact with any approved drugs[5]. Currently, there is no credible evidence that SBF1P1 is a functional therapeutic target, nor are there validated drugs, mechanisms of action, safety concerns, or established clinical roles associated with this pseudogene. The parent gene SBF1 should not be confused with SBF1P1 in drug discovery or molecular characterization[1][4].
