Overview

SET pseudogene 2 (SETP2) is a human pseudogene, designated as a non-functional genomic segment related to the protein-coding SET gene family[1][3]. Pseudogenes such as SETP2 do not encode functional proteins due to disabling mutations, premature stop codons, or lack of regulatory elements[4]. While historically considered nonfunctional, some pseudogenes—including members of the SET family—may be transcribed into non-coding RNAs that participate in gene regulation, such as acting as microRNA decoys or scaffolds, although this has not been established specifically for SETP2[2][4][5]. There is no current evidence that SETP2 is a drug target, therapeutic receptor, or directly implicated in disease, nor are there any approved drugs, known safety concerns, or biomarker uses associated with this pseudogene.
