Overview

SET pseudogene 7 refers to a genomic sequence that resembles a member of the SET gene family, but it is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is not expected to produce a functional protein[1][7]. There is no evidence that SETP7 is transcribed or translated into any protein product, nor is there evidence that it has a recognized role in cellular pathways, disease, or acts as a target for drugs. Pseudogenes in general may occasionally have regulatory functions through RNA transcripts (such as acting as miRNA sponges or influencing transcription), but there is no scientific evidence for such a function in the case of SETP7[2][3][7]. SETP7 is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any druggable protein. The gene is annotated as a pseudogene in authoritative resources[1], and there is nothing to support a role as an active molecular target. There may be confusion due to similar abbreviations—note that "SETD7" is an entirely different, active gene (SET domain containing lysine methyltransferase 7), which is a functional enzyme and therapeutic interest, but "SETP7" (SET pseudogene 7) is not the same and should not be conflated. Therefore, SETP7 is not a valid drug target, and querying it as such likely reflects a mistaken identity or a misspelling[1]. For any purpose where a druggable or biologically relevant molecular target is required, SETP7 should not be used. If information on the enzyme SETD7 is needed, a different query should be performed.
