Target intelligence / Profile preview
The SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein is a large, trimeric, type I membrane glycoprotein essential for viral entry into host cells. It mediates attachment to host cells via ACE2 interaction through its RBD and fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane. The spike protein is the primary target for neutralizing antibodies, diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines against COVID-19.
Inhibition of viral entry by blocking ACE2 interaction or preventing membrane fusion
