SCML2 pseudogene 1 (SCML2P1) is a pseudogene homologous to the functional gene SCML2, which encodes a Polycomb group protein involved in epigenetic gene repression, cell cycle regulation, and spermatogenesis[1][2][3][4][5]. However, SCML2P1 itself does not produce a functional protein and is not known to participate in any biological process or as a drug target. Its presence in the genome reflects sequence similarity to SCML2, but no evidence supports a direct functional, pathological, or therapeutic role for SCML2P1. All research on Polycomb-mediated repression, epigenetic programming, and cell cycle roles pertains to the functional gene SCML2, not the SCML2P1 pseudogene[1][2][3][4][5].
