Sry mRNA is the messenger RNA transcript of the Sex-determining region Y gene, located on the Y chromosome of therian mammals [1]. It serves as the template for the translation of the SRY protein, a key transcription factor containing a high-mobility group (HMG) box DNA-binding domain [2]. The primary biological function of Sry mRNA expression is to initiate the male sex determination pathway during embryonic development by triggering the differentiation of Sertoli cells in the bipotential gonad [3]. This process involves the SRY protein-mediated up-regulation of the SOX9 gene, which subsequently drives testis formation [4]. Abnormalities in Sry mRNA expression, such as those caused by gene deletions or mutations, are primary drivers of 46,XY gonadal dysgenesis (Swyer syndrome), while ectopic expression can lead to 46,XX testicular disorders [5]. Although Sry mRNA is not a target for any currently approved therapeutic drugs, it is a critical biomarker in prenatal diagnostics and a focal point for research into the molecular mechanisms of sex development [6].
