SFT2 domain-containing protein 1 is a non-essential membrane protein that localizes primarily to late-Golgi compartments. It is involved in vesicle fusion events with the Golgi complex, possibly facilitating the fusion of retrograde transport vesicles originating from the endocytic compartment with the Golgi apparatus. Its paralog is SFT2D2. The protein contributes to normal protein and membrane trafficking within cells, though deletions or mutations in yeast homologs do not typically result in dramatic phenotypes, indicating functional redundancy. There is currently no evidence linking SFT2D1 directly to human disease or therapeutic intervention.
