SHIP1 functions as an inositol polyphosphate-5-phosphatase, converting PI(3,4,5)P3 to PI(3,4)P2. This action inhibits downstream signaling pathways, particularly the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway, thereby negatively regulating cell activation and inflammatory responses. SHIP1 also functions as an adaptor protein, modulating signaling through protein-protein interactions.
