Overview

SH3 domain-binding glutamic acid-rich-like protein (SH3BGRL) is a small adapter protein encoded by the SH3BGRL gene on the X chromosome. It belongs to the SH3BGR family, which features a thioredoxin-like protein fold and includes proline-rich regions that mediate protein-protein and possible protein-RNA interactions. SH3BGRL acts as an adapter, bridging proteins or proteins with mRNAs, and may serve as a ubiquitin ligase-substrate adapter. It is involved in positive regulation of cytoplasmic translational initiation and in the proteasome-mediated, ubiquitin-dependent protein catabolic process. Its expression has been noted in various tissues, and it has been associated with some cancers, such as breast cancer, though it is not currently established as a therapeutic target. There are currently no known drugs that specifically target SH3BGRL, and it is not widely recognized as a biomarker or subject to notable safety concerns[1][2][5][6][9][10].
