Overview

SH3 domain-binding glutamic acid-rich protein (SH3BGR) is a small adaptor protein characterized by its ability to bind SH3 domains through glutamic acid-rich motifs, particularly in proline-rich regions often associated with protein-protein interaction networks[1][5][6][7]. It is present in the cytoplasm and may play a role in intracellular signaling, but its precise biological function remains largely uncharacterized, with no evidence to date linking it directly to major human diseases or to pharmacological targeting[5][6][7]. SH3BGR is a member of a small protein family with similar structure and function, and has at least one important paralog, SH3BGRL[1][3]. Its expression has been detected in various tissues, including muscle and neural tissue, as cataloged in expression databases[4][7]. It is not a classical receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but instead acts as an adaptor protein that may modulate complex cellular signaling events by bridging protein interactions via SH3 domain binding[1][5][6][7]. In summary, while SH3 domain-binding glutamic acid-rich protein (SH3BGR) is a well-defined protein with established molecular features and tissue expression, it is not currently considered a therapeutic target nor known to interact with drugs or to play a validated role in any disease process.
