Overview

SH3 domain-binding protein 4 pseudogene (LOC100420211, ENSG00000271111) is a nonfunctional DNA segment resembling the coding gene SH3BP4. Pseudogenes such as this typically do not produce functional proteins but may influence gene regulation at the RNA level, such as by acting as miRNA decoys or interfering with gene expression through antisense transcripts. There is no evidence that this pseudogene is involved in normal physiology or disease as a direct target, nor is it targeted by therapeutic compounds. The functional SH3BP4 gene is involved in clathrin-mediated endocytosis and the regulation of the mTOR pathway, but those activities are not attributed to the pseudogene variant.
