SH3RF3 antisense RNA 1 (SH3RF3-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 2 on the reverse strand, overlapping with the protein-coding gene SH3RF3. It is affiliated with the lncRNA gene class. Although its biological functions are not well defined, SH3RF3-AS1 has been associated in genetic studies with gastric cancer and the Escobar variant of multiple pterygium syndrome[7]. There are currently no data supporting its use as a direct therapeutic target, nor established drugs or biomarker roles. Functional studies about the SH3RF3 protein do not directly translate to the antisense lncRNA, and thus SH3RF3-AS1 should not be confused with the protein-coding SH3RF3, which does have demonstrated relevance to pathways in cancer stem-like cells[1][3][7].
