Shaw Potassium Channel

Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated potassium channel
01

Overview

The Shaw potassium channel is a voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channel family member that is prominently expressed in neurons and is essential for enabling high-frequency, repetitive firing of action potentials. It plays critical roles in neuronal excitability by contributing to repolarization during action potentials. In Drosophila, they modulate pacemaker neuron activity that controls circadian locomotor behavior by affecting rhythmic neurotransmitter release from clock neurons. In mammals, the Shaw channels correspond to genes such as KCNC1–KCNC4.
