Shrinkage stress relief via pre-polymer Isofiller refers to a materials strategy in which pre-polymerized fillers or nanogel additives are incorporated into polymeric (typically resin-based) systems. These fillers help reduce volumetric shrinkage and resulting shrinkage stress that occur during polymerization of the resin. Shrinkage stress is a major problem in applications like dental composites, where it can cause poor marginal adaptation, secondary caries, or postoperative pain. Pre-polymer fillers act as microscopic springs or stress absorbers, distributing forces and lowering the modulus of elasticity in the bulk composite, while nanogel additives or unsilanized particles create internal sites for stress relief and change polymerization reaction kinetics. This technology is not a drug or biological receptor/enzyme, but an engineering solution to improve polymer material properties.
