Target intelligence / Profile preview
Shugoshin 1 pseudogene 2 (SGO1P2) is a human genomic locus annotated as a pseudogene related to the functional Shugoshin 1 (SGO1) gene. Unlike SGO1, which encodes a protein critical for protecting centromeric cohesin during cell division, SGO1P2 does not code for a functional protein product and does not participate in recognized biological processes, pathways, or diseases involved in chromosome cohesion or segregation[5][6]. The presence of pseudogenes such as SGO1P2 is common in the human genome and generally reflects the evolutionary remnants of functional genes[5].
