Overview
CD43 antigen, also known as leukosialin or sialophorin, is a heavily O-glycosylated transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on various hematopoietic cells, including T lymphocytes, NK cells, granulocytes, and activated B lymphocytes. It functions primarily as an anti-adhesive molecule regulating cell-cell interactions and plays a role in immune responses. It is used as a marker for identifying and classifying normal and neoplastic T-cells and certain B-cell lymphomas and leukemias. A soluble form is generated via proteolytic shedding post-activation.
