sLea
Molecular classification
Carbohydrate Antigen, Glycan, Tumor-associated carbohydrate antigen
01

Overview

Sialyl Lewis A (sLea), also known as CA19-9, is a tetrasaccharide carbohydrate antigen. It is structurally related to the Lewis blood group antigens and is best known for its role as a tumor-associated carbohydrate antigen, particularly in adenocarcinomas of the digestive tract such as pancreatic cancer. It acts as an epitope for selectins and is used clinically as a biomarker for gastrointestinal cancers. Antibodies targeting sLea have been developed for immunotherapy approaches against cancers expressing this antigen.
