For example, sialylated laminins can function as viral attachment factors, facilitating the entry of some viruses such as the H-1 parvovirus into cancer cells[1]. Changes in sialylation patterns in the extracellular matrix are associated with pathological processes including cancer progression and may affect immune evasion[3]. The preferred scientific approach would be to specify the particular laminin isoform (e.g., Laminin-211, Laminin-332) and the type of sialylation when discussing functional or therapeutic roles.
