Sideroflexin 4 pseudogene 1 (SFXN4P1)

Target
SFXN4P1
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)
01

Overview

SFXN4 pseudogene 1 (SFXN4P1) is a pseudogene, meaning it is a DNA sequence similar to the functional sideroflexin 4 gene (SFXN4) but does not produce a functional protein product. Pseudogenes typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and may no longer be actively transcribed or translated. As such, SFXN4P1 does not encode a protein and is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or biologically active molecule. It should not be confused with the functional SFXN4 gene, which plays a role in mitochondrial complex I assembly and has been implicated in certain diseases[1][2][3].
