Sideroflexin 5 pseudogene (ENSG00000271667) is a DNA sequence in the human genome with high sequence similarity to the functional Sideroflexin 5 gene, but is incapable of producing a functional protein product due to accumulated mutations or loss of regulatory elements[1][3][4]. Pseudogenes such as this arise through various genetic mechanisms, including gene duplication followed by degradation or retrotransposition of mRNA. Most pseudogenes are biologically inert and do not contribute to physiological processes, drug response, or disease except in rare cases where they act as regulatory noncoding RNAs[3][5]. There is no evidence that this specific pseudogene fulfills such a role, nor is it considered a direct therapeutic target. Its annotation is important to avoid misinterpretation in genetic and molecular assays, as pseudogenes can sometimes be amplified or sequenced alongside their functional counterparts, leading to confusion or error in experimental studies[3][4].
