Overview
Siderophore Iron Transporter 1 (Sit1p/Arn1p) is a membrane protein responsible for the uptake of iron bound to siderophores. It plays a crucial role in microbial iron acquisition and homeostasis, particularly in low-iron environments. It transports primarily hydroxamate-type siderophores, and is important for epithelial invasion. Targeting Sit1 has been proposed as an antimicrobial strategy.
