Sigma non-opioid intracellular receptor 1

Molecular classification
Chaperone protein, Intracellular receptor
01

Overview

The sigma non-opioid intracellular receptor 1 (σ₁R) is a unique chaperone protein primarily located at the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane. It is involved in regulating calcium and lipid signaling, modulating ion channels and neurotransmitter release, and influencing various cellular processes including cell proliferation, survival, learning, memory, and mood. Dysregulation of SIGMAR1 is implicated in several diseases, including neurological and psychiatric disorders, as well as cancer, making it an emerging therapeutic target.
