Overview

Signal recognition particle 19 kDa protein (SRP19) is a highly conserved accessory protein component of the eukaryotic and archaeal signal recognition particle (SRP), a ribonucleoprotein complex fundamental for co-translational targeting of proteins to membranes[1][2][3]. SRP19 serves a crucial structural and assembly function by binding specifically to helix 6 of SRP RNA, promoting the correct folding and juxtaposition of SRP helices 6 and 8, which is a prerequisite for subsequent binding of SRP54 and maturation of a functional SRP complex[1][2][3]. SRP19 acts as a molecular scaffold and RNA-binding chaperone, but does not participate in direct recognition of signal sequences or catalysis; it is not classified as a drug target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor[1][2][3]. There are currently no known disease associations, interacting drugs, or biomarker or safety concerns linked to SRP19.
