Overview

Signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (STAT1) mRNA is the transcript responsible for the production of the STAT1 protein, a critical component of the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. This pathway is the primary mechanism by which cells respond to interferons (IFNs), triggering the transcription of genes essential for antiviral defense and immune regulation (Source: UniProt P42224). STAT1 mRNA expression is tightly regulated, as the encoded protein plays dual roles in cell survival and apoptosis, often acting as a tumor suppressor in some contexts while promoting inflammation in others (Source: PubMed PMID: 29049410).
