Overview
Signal transducer and activator of transcription 4 (STAT4) is a key transcription factor that mediates cellular responses to cytokines, particularly interleukin-12 (IL-12). It is primarily expressed in hematopoietic cells and plays a critical role in the differentiation of T helper cells, the induction of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) production, and the regulation of both innate and adaptive immune responses. Dysregulation of STAT4 has been implicated in various autoimmune diseases and chronic inflammatory conditions, as well as potentially contributing to tumorigenesis by promoting chronic inflammation.
