Overview

Signal transducer and activator of transcription proteins (STATs) represent a family of intracellular transcription factors that mediate critical cellular processes such as immunity, proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation. They function downstream of cytokine and growth factor receptors—primarily activated by Janus kinases (JAK)—and transmit signals from the cell membrane to the nucleus to regulate gene expression.
